Well it's coming up to Bank Holiday Weekend, and I must say things are going swimmingly. Nice coffees and nice meetings. The schedule is getting nearer to being locked and I'll be contacting the actors soon. Rob and Adam are busy building grip for us. Jacq and Marco are talking locations. It's all very good indeed.
I should be posting a new gallery here soon and I've finally sorted out the pre-loaders for the microsite. Wouldn't it be nice if this was my only job, but sadly real work beckons and I must get on ...

Yesterday was a good day work wise and sunswise even better. I finished the second complete shot list for the film in order of the schedule. This, along with the script and the storyboard which was completed many months ago now should hopefully mean we miss nothing that has flitted along in my head. It was a long job and very tiring as it means you have to relive or rather pre-live the shoots. I suppose a technical storyboard which has less of the artistic enjoyment of drawing pictures newly from script and imagination. This is just a list i.e. establish shot #1 establish shot #2 get the hotel left of shot and remember to include the cloud, mid/long pan etc etc until your head explodes and most cafe people in Huddersfield now think I'm a sad loner who can only talk to his erasable pen, or pencil as this scheduled shot list is nothing but erasable. However it is completed and can be passed onto Rob and Becki for inspection and ideas of how the hell do we do all those shots and scenes in a day you director fool sick man you...

Now I can enjoy looking at the script and thinking what clothes go nicely with that coloured stone, and how does he say that and how does she look up at this... this bit i enjoy.

Then rehearsals, they shall begin at a stronger pace and with more venom soon, but presently have been meeting the odd actor here and there just to remind them of how perfect they are for these roles and how nice coffee tastes.

now sunny monday. I may go for a run if my heel holds out

Lots happening as usual. Before and after my heavenly visit to Lismore (near Mull which will be the muse of some random post art quite soon)certain things with equipment coming on, certain costumes being found and bought, sizes coming in for custom made tailoring (and I don't mean Producer-man) as Becki is now on the costume for Zarathustress. The Mannequin is actually, well nearly exactly Sara's measurements which is quite astounding.

The shot list has been completed and is being written again in order of shoots so Becki and Rob can understand how the hell we get them all in, in a day!!!

another cameo has been drawn. Which I yet have to scan in and pass on for web inclusion. But I think that I shall be making a cameo animation at some point for the film site. (which is looking cool Mr Nik!)

Now I have to get ready for other studies and work and film-night. Becki's choice.

I know there's lots more but I haven't the head to pass on what the hell it is... Yours truly Hyper Boy

hmm-well this is new to me- blogging!!
well I'm becki and i am doing various jobs on the film, mostly cinematography and costume, but i think my most important role will be catering and mental support in marcos darkest days!!
Well today has been a productive day, after months of sporadic phone calls to costume hire places, military surplus places, the royal armories, dredging the internet and various other places I managed to get my hands on vintage WWII uniforms and after all that faffing about, a place selling army uniforms was only about 2 miles from my house, and the best bit was, after being given quotes for over £100 each, for basic replicas, we got two full dress uniforms, including shoes and berets for £53.96.
Being on such a bargainous roll I went to find out about wigs and hairpeices and again being quoted about £50 for a synthetic hairpeice Ive found one just as we need for £7.99-not the best or highest quality you've ever seen but certainly good enough and realistic enough. So I will buy that tomorrow and then we will have to do fittings and tests with Lindsay and Greg in their costumes.
Next thing now is to get on with making Zarathustress' costume, unfortunately i cant get my hands on a dressmakers dummy so im going to have to make that too!
Well now i have lost my blogging virginity and found it wasn't too painful i might do it again sometime-

It's been a beautiful sunny weekend, and perfect for our green screen tests. The first results look promising and I'll post some into the image gallery soon. I need to free some hard drive space for the renders as it's pretty full with the unedited live footage from a performance at uni. Incidentally, that play contains a few of our cast members in interesting costumes. I feel a DVD extra coming on, hey Lindsay? ;)
We had some good news regarding getting some of the kit for the shoot. I can't say much, but it's going to be a great help. (a very big help)
An early meeting (coffee) tomorrow is on the cards, hopefully we'll get some shoot days penciled in as I want to get call sheets organised. We'll also talk about trying to raise some money to get help us out. Anyone out there want to donate?

It's been a good morning (of early) meetings, luckily there was plenty of coffee to be had. It looks like building will start on our makeshift dolly and steadycam. Things are quietly ticking over...
It would have been nice to have a budget, but we'll get by. We prize the "blue folder" as funding gone wrong.
Getting Butterflies now and that's with 2 months to go before the shoot.
What's going to happen then?

Had a lovely chat/coffee with Keith who will be playing Martin in SBC. We took stills for the cast page of the web site and talked of film and poetry and friends. Just before Keith had to go we started rehearsing his scene with Jenny's father. The after a few moments a pat on the shoulder revealed Vincenzo who indeed will be playing Jenny's father. I haven't seen him for quite some time and then while reading his lines he appeared. Bloody cool end to a meeting. So hopefully those photos should be around soon for the web site. Also introduced myself to Phil a most dashing young man I saw in the cafe and he may well be involved in some way too.

Now I am just preparing for studies (Non-film related) the animation shoot tomorrow with Tina and Rob, and a graphics brief for the York craft workers. So busy... Oh yes and there's that film to do...

Been a weekend of recharging and getting my head together for the business of the next few weeks. A getting organised kinda evening...

Saturday, May 08, 2004

It's late (early) and had a busy day thinking about the film. Just checked the blog and see that Lindsay has put in an entry :) and turned the blog into a message board! I dunno. :) Sleep now, a lot of things to think about over the weekend.

Worry? Me? :)

I'm very glad you (Lindsay) are ok with Harry and I am writing a lovely part for Gary (who was playing Harry) as I think he is a very compassionate fellow, it will be lovely to hear him tell a beautiful story. The bench scene now will be in a graveyard so Lindsay's alabaster air will not look out of place!

Carl is looking forward to the upside down shoot.

I am feeling much better after the meeting. Jacq is on board to help with production which will be a great help for both sides of production and she seems lovely too which always helps.

See I even worry about loveliness!!!

How's that for hard core filmmaking? Do they teach the "Lovely Factor" at film school? Is there a module at the NY School of Film on "Loveliness"? or the LA Film School on the boulevard, or the Moscow school of cinematography, ... maybe one day! It makes a film into an experience to be cherished and not simply bragged about.

hi there! i finally can blog in cause im at a computer with the tinternet - i don't have it at home, so will be trekking to the library to post messages :) I also got your emails, Marco, and im happy with everything you said hehe, i'll text you when i'm less busy at uni, and we can get stuck in! i really enjoyed the harry rehearsal - was very helpful too. im sorry i didnt reply to your text but i ran out of the old credit malarky. Well, i'll be seeing you all soon hopefully (Carl will be holding me upside down soon it seems hehe) and look forward to the next rehearsal! Take care and always look both ways
xxx
ps. Marco i think you worry too much...

That was a lovely meeting, a coffee, with stuff sorted and things are moving again. Great!

I think there is a quiet before a storm at present. I think every entry to date I've had excitement and work and verve. Well lowest time for me of film at present. Still working and still in love with script, still in love with images but vibes feel low. Just one of those things to work on through. Seem to have to Physically Run to get rid of the lows. Forrest Gump syndrome. Lack of help for serious film is serious and crippling in a production sense, artistically they can live up their arses, as art will not stop... Certainly not here.

However Sun is shining and off to meet Nik and Jacq and things WILL be off again. We need to set off again and try another bout of getting stuff, organising shoots (shoot lists art direction props schedules as we are doing) filling in goddamn forms, consolidating what we have and checking what we need, and getting it. I feel I need to wake up as I'm pissed off with myself at present

Funny, having an offer of writing and making a film in Toronto on 35mm, even solidifying a connection that will let 3 or 4 of our core group work with the Toronto core, and even more that we will be working in the same wonderful spirit,... Although this is an AMAZING achievement and possibility and on our track record that stuff happens no matter what, it has certainly not sunk in. As I should be euphoric and all I seem to be feeling is low. Well... all i can say is well done us!

So there's filmmaking.. up and down. Ups are HIGH lows are LOW. I can't be bothered being low anymore. So I shall change that. Things are really quite astounding, outstanding and we have a myth of a film, wonderful people involved, and that sun is shining.

Also Rob and I are filming the last part of my animation/film on Tuesay so I can then extract every frame and then begin. I think it's going to be 5 minutes long so 25 frames a second on a rotoscope animation... there you'll find some lows hey! Will look outstadning though.

Wouldn't it be nice to do this full time...? At the moment I'm juggling this film-making energy with marking, PHD, PGCE and research assistant work . . . so many deadlines and yet the film-making still remains fun. That means a lot.
(Although I was trying to print out the schedule strips this evening and the print heads on my old epson kept clogging.)
Anyhow, tomorrow another meeting (coffee) with Marco between marking, PHD, PGCE and research assistant work and then the evening off watching a film.
Hopefully, at the weekend I'll get a chance to do some work on the website...

Tuesday, May 04, 2004

It seems to have been ages since I last wrote an entry here... yep - on the 26th of last month. I guess things were a little quiet last week as we came to terms with the fact that we will have to make this film with very little money .... and a lot of good will (which we have all around us).
Today, Marco and I spent a good couple of hours organising the schedules and working out where everything can go. The film is moving again, once the schedule is sorted we can inform the cast and the proverbial ball is a-rolling.
It's good to have solid things to focus your energy on.
