Just wanted to add a couple of things vital to the production which have happened in the last couple of days.

Becki has finished tailoring an 1880s costume for one of our main players and we've hired 1880s and contemporary suites from Homburgs in Leeds with exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable staff (expressly Niall)which is a great relief.

Also as our larder grows with food for cast and crew, Becki has started making the first batch of lasagne. It is interesting to note that on my first two films the food and stills came to half the budget. The spirit of Italian filmmaking and MWE is through its stomach :) The importance of Hospitality especially when people are working for free, I think is paramount. And I just wanted to give lots of credit to Becki's efforts here as it's well appreciated.

The busier we get the less entries. And even when there is a subtle lull I think my/our heads are fuller than ever in anticipation of the shoots, which Nik is organising tremendously.

Rob Becki and I are constantly going through shot lists and story-boards, Tony Rice my cousin is making steadicams, dolly, jib with Rob, The actors are being met and constantly contacted to make sure availability is ok and that they are happy with situation and roles and along with that in as corny a way as I can muster great new friends are being made. Also Paul Zarins should be coming in to the frey to help on sound, Joe Asher to help as Camera #2 and Jacq is coming up trumps with locations.

Very cool.

lulls are painful but one has to restrain ones energy or it can hurt. Waiting for the big push is like having three hundred espressos and not moving anywhere!... AGH!!! Just under three weeks now...

These meetings do break things down though and make me realise that we could be on to a really special thing here.

My word I go from exitment to more and then so bloody tired.

Last night was another inspiring night. Buck and Lindsay actually made me cry. I couldn't believe it. And it was because their acting was good, not bad ;)...

All the actors now have given me great confidence for what is essentially the most important thing, the story-telling and without the right actors the story just messes up. I just hope my story is good enough, and we pull off this beautiful endeavour.

Many things seem to be happening with in the feeling of MWE work. The spirit and energy being for me the most important thing in any film stuff. If you don't like those around you and the experience of the making, then what is the stress for but ego and money. Change ego and money to verve and beauty then there's a point in putting so much effort into a thing.

In my opinion ...

Being a luddite when it comes to computers, it took me an absolute age to get to grips with this Blogger lark. But after much cursing and, with the help of the computer sage(or Nik as he is better known), I'm finally on. Hooray!
Well, this whole filming lark is gathering pace around me, which I have helped with on occasion(not as much as I would have liked but some of us have to work for a living). I did a few stills for the website and I would like to get the chance to do more. Of course, there's still the small matter of my guest appearance in the film as Mr Jenkins. Guess I'll have to get over the hatred of watching myself on screen. Marco, please capture my best side.

Last Wednesday (9th June 04 (Would've been my Dad's Birthday)) was the first shoot of the film. I had been very hi and lo in anticipation of the film beginning and I'm sure in the next five weeks this will increase. (Although Venus crossing the sun I'm sure pulled my wherewithallalloverthe place:)The waterfall looked beautiful and on set I felt absolutely confident as Carl and Lindsay played out the scene wonderfully. It was a very relaxed evening on set and the picnic afterwards would have been lovely if it had not been for the suicide Midge squad that attacked and conquered. I think they'd come down from the West Highlands the numbers were so strong and the battle as fierce as that on the front step of Minas Tirith. Unfortunately our leadership could not withstand the midges and we retreated to the top of a hill to finish the jam doughnuts. Unfortunately I didn't get a custard doughnut which was a shame as I HAD PREPARED the picnic and that goes without saying that the preparer and the DIRECTOR gets the custard doughnut. You only have to watch trainspotting to understand this. But I shall soldier on. Luckily I had a custard doughnut before leaving as I knew what a motley famished crew I work with.

All in all it was a lovely way to begin. The way now shall be hard and fast. The film is prepared but for a few locations and solid knowledge of what equipment we use. It's nearly there but a few additions may occur. Cast and crew are nearly there too, The look of the film is coming close, as Becki finishes costume and I think of the look along with Becki and Rob.

Monday, Lindsay and Greg are coming over for dinner and a costume fitting, which will be cracking. I may ask Jaqc along too and I think Nik is coming and I'm sure some production details wile be discussed.

Then on Thursday, Buck Rodgers who is playing Gogo (A name I chose without seeing Kill Bill Vol1) are coming for a rehearsal..

It's coming together very well I think.
I just wonder how I'm going to introduce to this subtle and beautiful story, the donkey suit and the giant gorilla that takes over Moscow?

u mean Nik stops to have a coffee with you marco? damn i guess its just me then that nik leaves as soon as i walk in, i really thought we were makin progress as friends too, i mean he gets the girl so y is he so cruel to me? lol

anyway looking forward to wednesday and the holding lindsay upside down bit

I haven't written anything on here for a few days... It seems the more busy things get the less time we feel we have to spend with our friend the Blogger. Things seem to be progressing nicely. I'm spending most of my days playing around with the schedules, hopefully we'll lock them soon.
Really looking forward to the mini shoot on Wednesday - just a small affair - but important. The real stuff starts mid July.
I really need to get the gallery for May up, there are some nice stills to go on there.
There is a definite sense of momentum in the air ...

Enjoyed a coffee(s) with Nik this afternoon after work today. We went over what was what and what might be and what should happen next. A good end to a very hectic week. A most productive pre-production week+ I think.

My next task is what I seem to be calling EQ-ing the tone of the film. The look of the sets and the voice of the actors. Reading the script, looking at the storyboards and trying to understand how to make this a homogeneous experience for the viewer of the final cut. A tricky process I think. But it seems to be the next thing for me to understand.

I shall see the waterfall again tomorrow to see if the first shoot of the film can happen and then just continue to read the script and background literature to ground myself in the story and its philosophy...

toooo exciting for me at times

Well I have just had a read through with Katie Sanders who plays Jesse Para and Kate Mason who's playing Ann Crane, what a delightful rehearsal. A subtle amount of work just to see the roles and I think all is set. Fantastic. And Last night a rehearsal with Vincenzo Cremona (Jenny's Father) who was in my last film and Keith who plays Martin and Tina who plays Martin's wife Mary Crane. This was a very tricky scene and needs choreography but the initial read through is so very promising. Next I think we could rehearse with camera and more of the set in place to see how this works on film.

Tomorrow I meet with Jacq (location manager) and Joe a possible camera man to go over storyboards to brief on the look of locations to find and to look over style and context for both parties in both disciplines.

And Friday, it will be great to ground again with Nik, so we can see where we are. These meetings always really help me find where the film is and what is to be done next.

So much is now happening. The world has tripled and I am truly excited with what is possible. Lots to do. Schedule is a tricky thing as everyone needs to know and yet locations may change, holidays may come, and cameramen may get paid jobs. And the whole shoot needs to fluidly adapt. What a magnificent task!!!!!!!!!!

good on everyone.
