Hey Everyone, it's a weird time, as all times through the film have been really. I hope everyone's having an enjoyable time. I've gathered energy now and ready for another big push on sound. It's interesting going through the scenes now with sound in mind and not the visuals which have obsessed for these past months. There seem to be different ways in dealing with different sets and locations. It will be another grand learning curve. Although when I did sound on the last film, it was my most obsessive time I think ever. The world becomes a sampling ground that never shuts up. And Becki is still with me which is quite something ;) I don't think I've ever worked those kinds of hours before or maybe will again as I hope to be a little more controlled on this one. There was a strange deadline for that one. Then music ... the musicians. Then the colouring and Nik's expertise and guidance, as he has learnt much I think on digital work and he knew lots before. Other things happening my way... well the novel of Spoken By Crowds is getting interesting. Jenny is 44 and well hard. Things are very depressing in part three,.. Although she's kicking ass IN a big Taoist kick ass manner. There are three other films being written and the 3 or 4 earlier films already written will need editing soon into a format that can be shown to the councils. As other formats (very similar to the professional format) seem to weird studios out terribly. But when our beautiful SBC is finished, there will be alot alot alot to do. Showing to festivals, Studios, etc etc.. And then going for it with new material... We want a budget. We deserve one. Such a very exciting time. I know my neandothal doggedness is going to surface at the end of this film, I can feel it. Hope you're all happy and excited and kicking ass Jenny style. Wednesday, December 22, 2004

I'm so sleepy and so full of cold, but I can't stop thinking about the film. We had an unofficial viewing of the draft edit last night, I'm not saying too much, but it's looking good. The official viewing will be in January with the main production team. Many more months in post, but I'm glad I'm there. I've put the rest of the images up tonight, taking us to the end of the film. But now it's back to back to bed for me (after another medicinal whiskey). Sunday, December 12, 2004
I know that this is your baby (for now, until the real one comes) and you probably dont need anyone else interfering in these final stages but if you have any problem with colour matching etc then bang me out a copy and I can take it in to work and get it done there. Has anyone heard about Jaque's new job? apparently she is going to be a production assistant round the corner to my work. Fate? Destiny? Luck? taking all bets, I also offer video poker... 10:22 Spoken By Crowds first draft visual edit is complete began watching rushes 21st October finished 11th December and it's 110 minutes long... DATA report ;) That seems like a proper fucking film to me and it looks bloody lovely lots to iron out, sounds to unveil and more learning and wonderful times What a wonderful thing... Thanks again shall sleep well I think... love to all you special lot
Guess what I'm doing, or my computer anyway,... I'm capturing the last footage for the first visual cut of the film, today or tomorrow (I imagine today though) The first cut will be finished. How exciting, how sad, how wonderful.... now sounds will obsess the sound people, music the music people and the jingle of keys the foley people... Lots to do, in fact it'll take more to do the sound than the edit probably (Timewise anyway...) oh yes colourisation, etc etc.... and .... but I hope I done good on the edit, I feel it's wonderful, so please feel free to pat yourselves on the back. You did something very special here I feel... I am going to have a rest and become a little more selfish and do some art, photography, build a portfolio as I keep doing stuff, but i'm the worst salesman in the world and soon my Art will fill a small country and I should really try showing some of it now. Take care all and enjoy christmas if I don't see or hear from you.. love m Monday, December 06, 2004
Oh my word that was a tricky edit... goodness!!! Coming of age with this edit lark. Fabulous process though. Had such a cool chat with Nik this morning set me up for a hidden monster of a day. Over 80 mins now (That is of the visual cut, colourising, sound adr foley music all still to do but we are about 3 months ahead of schedule or the healthy schedule I had in mind once upon a time) The freaky -get it ready for April- was almost a joke I had with Joe but it isn't too far away I don't think. but No deadlines... this has to be the best it can ever be... it's a goddamn miracle though if i may be so bold... what a wonderful group of people to make this happen. I'm gonna cry like a baby at the preview and remember this time like a great grandad cherishing all moments he can scoop from his fading memory... m Saturday, December 04, 2004
Wow, 62 minutes. Thats incredible, is that including colour matching and all the other after effects? are we really (judging by the current rate of editing) just another 25 odd days off seeing a completed film? You guys up north must be really going for it. At the moment (while I am supposed to be working) I am actually just cutting together a music video from old film clips for sh*ts and giggles over a muse track. It has taken me roughly four hours to complete just two minutes, and I am not working with as much footage, multicamera or pouring my heart and soul into it as I know Marco is with this film (and everybody else did too). I don't know how you are getting it done so much faster than your predicted time but hey, I am not complaining. Personally I want to see this film so bad my blood itches (nicer than it sounds). Is there any chance of a preview? Thursday, December 02, 2004
Just a quick note to say that I've just re-rendered the first 62 ish minutes onto DVD and watching them back reminded me of what a special time this summer was. Fantastic. |
