I saw Marco and Becky for the first time in quite a while on Friday night and they'd cooked me a lovely meal, so thankyou for that. Becky looks big enough to burst but is radiating a healthy pregnant lady glow and Marco is obviously beavering away with the sound and managing to produce some rip-snorting farts! Well done Marco. I know this is a weird time for the "Spoken By Crowds" production as not everyone is together as often as they used to be but it's good to see that Marco has plenty of other ideas bubbling away. He was talking to me about his "Grey Hinterlands" project which sounds very interesting and would include his first foray into the theatre as well. Only time will tell if he can master that medium too. Anyway, here's to the next creative chapter. I hope you're all well and happy. See ya. Sunday, February 27, 2005
The sound is breaking through. A weird job probably the oddest part is the levelling phrases words sometimes syllabuls and the eq-ing it's tricky knowing what is best sound for individual voices at any one time, very intricate. I was actually having a conversation yesterday with someone far clverer than me and I started to see her words in wav format and i saw a buffer memory thing trying to catch up and understand what she was saying. bloody odd mind set these sound people. anyway i'm upto about 39 minutes which is further thasn I thought i'd get when i began sound so now it seems possible for good sound things feel good. Well working with the sound has now begun properly. The possibilities are endless and decision making on this stuff is pretty damn tricky but i think I am getting my sound head back. The exciting stuff that is happening at present is with the third years, as Nik said. It's an amazing time I reckon. Intensity like that is hard to come by and should be cherished even if it is hard going. So goood luck to you all and thank you for allowing me to observe some of your work. Any thing that I can do please don't hesitate to ask, now or for the future. The sound is steadily coming on but I think it will take some time. But who knows... Just a thought as university is coming to an end, as it always comes to an end with a bang and then usually some weird times. I just want to say all those I have worked with have the potential to carry on in whatever they wish to do. I hope you go ahead and never stop doing,... as doing is all we have. That's what I mean by helping. If there is anything I (... and I think I can say 'we' from MWE) can do to support work and future work especially I am at your service whenever time and energy allow I would love to work for and with you guys some time. This sounds american but if you want to create something just do it and there is support and equipment (somewhat limited equipment) but the energy and love is there and so great things can only come from such energy. Anyway I think most of you know where I stand but please don't hesitate... take care ... big M Thursday, February 17, 2005
So not well, but if you see the previous post Marco then you know what the message meant.
woohoo, blog is working again! I don't know what happened to it since we got back from the first test screening but neither jacq or myself could blog. Anyway, just a little catch up because I have been keeping up with the blogs even when I haven't posted. I am sorry that this part of the production seems like such a drag to everybody. True it is the most laborious part but it is also one of the most (if not the most) important bits. To be fair I would love to be in on it but being so far away... Still it is good to know that a perfectionist is sat behind the keyboard. Anyway, a bit of bad news (for me anyway), my camera was stolen from work about a week ago :( Fortunately however they seem to think that it was at work because I was filming their showreel for them and have offered to buy me a new one. This is good because I get my 12 months warranty again and a brand spanking new camera but is bad because I feel a little dirty that someone there (that I would have trusted) has nicked it. So I have told them I would like to upgrade to the XL2 and will throw in the extra cash but still would like to know if there is a possibility of getting a similar deal to marco on the JVC instead. Ah well, I'll try calling marco again, I just hate leaving messages. Every time it cuts in I feel like I have suddenly been thrust out into the limelight and every word will be replayed and scrutinised. Meh, we'll see how this message goes. Sunday, February 13, 2005Just testing the new server settings Was the last thing I wrote in the blog, and that was on the 22nd of December. I hadn't realised that I had been away so long. Well, hello again.
The test screening itself was lovely and for a moment the creative, collaborative spirit that keeps me going and gives me hope was there again. Wonderful. Well, it feels like spring is coming and the days are getting longer, and it is the sign for me to crawl out of my cardboard box packed with straw and blink at the winter sun. (it's still a bit cold now.) Today, I've been co-directing the cast of the Threepenny Opera, it was a long day, but we achieved a lot. (Jenny and Katie, of Spoken by Crowds fame are in it too). I am so sleepy. It seems like an age ago that we made SBC, Marco is busy editing in his hermitage and we eagerly await the next cut. I hope all of you out there are being equally creative in all the things you do, I know you all are. Blessings to you all. Tuesday, February 08, 2005
AAAGH! Sigh!!! that was the most laborious job to date I've done in film. Alot of clips needed smoothing into the next cut... criss cross criss cross and scenes have been moved around and subtly snipped.... now for the exciting bit of sound. Equalising, adding tone, foley, adr!!!! then one f the most exciting jobs music... but the tedious bollocks has been completed. Which I am fucking happy about!!! please excuse my french! Tomorrow I will start exporting all the audio tracks scene by scene and character by character, they will be given hopefully decent tone and then put back into the timeline a little rounder and cleaner. This is quite fun... but watch for my moaning about goddamn EQ-ing in about a week! :) Hope the University is going well at this hard stage of Third year and that all are well and pushing on. Everyone else? How you doin? Give us a blog! You know you want to, !!! Friday, February 04, 2005
Just sent this email to Nik thought it'd be a nice blog. but it's actually 33.30 now I'm at 29.03 mins ironing out edit viewing stuff and crossing over all sound ends that have sharp cut sounds... then i can export all the tracks and make sound sound lovely... having cool notions about foley too. very exciting I may copy and paste this last bit in a blog and that bit too enjoy the friday blues big bouy mz |
